For all those ‘Dredd’ fans out there holding on to a sliver of hope that your voices will be heard and a sequel to the cult classic will be made, this is for you.
Currently going on in Frankfurt, Germany is the Destination Star Trek convention where Karl Urban (Judge Dredd and Bones from the Abrams directed Trek films) decided to make an appearance. In a fan Q&A segment the question of the longed for sequel was brought up.
According to Whatculture.com Karl Urban is reported as saying that the original ‘Dredd’ writer/director Alex Garland and Lionsgate Studio are having active “conversations” about a possible followup. Urban noted that the wide theatre release was poorly handled but the DVD sales and online fan interest have been noticed by the higher ups.
While this is nowhere near a confirmation of things to come, it is a good step in the right direction. I for one loved the first film and would embrace a second with open arms.
What do you guys think of Urban’s comments and the possibility of a Dredd 2? Sound off in the comments below.
