Yes, you heard it right! ABC has officially renewed Marvels first television show and opted to pick up the companion series Agent Carter. Agents of SHIELD started off breaking records but quickly lost a large chunk of its audience. Later on in the season, with a still sizeable viewer base, the ratings evened out and have been one of ABC’s top shows this season. This news was long expected but it is great to finally get some confirmation on the matter. Around the time of Captain America: The Winter Soldier hit theatres AoS really found its stride and has become a must watch for all fans of the MCU and a great show regardless of any previous investment.
On the Agent Carter front, the series is set to star Hailey Atwell, reprising her role from the Captain America films, as the titular Agent Carter. We will also see guest appearances by Howard Stark (presumably played by Dominic Cooper) and the other faces from the original Cap flick.
Check out the official synopsis for Agent Carter below;
“It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.”
From the sounds of it Agent Carter will fit right in with the rest of the ABC lineup and will hopefully offer us a new look at a part of the MCU that has yet to be explored to it’s full potential. From the Zodiac serum introduced in the One-Shot, to her struggle for acknowledgement in a man’s world, this new series has a ton of room to work with and I am confident Marvel will hit it out of the park once again.
