During last year’s E3 Microsoft’s press conference there was a distinct lack of games, much to the disdain of the console enthusiasts. One of the few games they did showcase was a console exclusive by the way of Insomniac games, former partners of Sony and creators of the critically adored ‘Ratchet & Clank’ and ‘Resistance’ franchises. That game went by the title of ‘Sunset Overdrive’. The original trailer showed off a brightly coloured post apocalyptic world inhabited by strange zombie like creatures. In that world, your character will employ a number of out of this world weapons to mow down the zombie horde and fight for your survival. Pretty by the numbers but it was nice to see Insomniac return to their more cartoony and fun roots.
The above video reveals the first ever gameplay of the new title and it certainly holds up to the promise of the trailer. As well as showing off some of the weapons and mechanics, the video also gives us our first concrete details of the story. An artillery of awesome weapons (i’m partial to the TNT teddy bear launcher), gnarly enemies and a beautiful colour pallet are all on display in this quick demo video. There is still some work to be done but if the final product keeps up the promise shown here gamers will be in for a fun time.
‘Sunset Overdrive’ is a third person, open-world shooter coming exclusively to the Xbox One. For all things games and ‘Sunset Overdrive’ check back in to OTL News!
