The past few weeks have seen NetherRealm Studios header, Ed Boon, counting down to a surprise announcement. Long have rumours persisted that the announcement would be for either a sequel to ‘Injustice’ or a new entry in the MK franchise. Today, we got our answer. Fans of Mortal Kombat rejoice, MKX is coming!
‘Mortal Kombat X’ has been announced for a 2015 release and will be a cross generational title (meaning it will be hitting PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One). considering it will be landing on last generations consoles its a pretty safe bet that this iteration of MK will not be as gorgeous as the above trailer but that is no reason to get down on it. The trailer may not include any gameplay footage but it does hint at a number of features that will be included in the title. Interactive environments and x-ray attacks will be making a return, as well as the inclusion of personal weapons (ice sword FTW).
Here is the official statement;
“Fueled by next-gen technology, Mortal Kombat X combines unparalleled, cinematic presentation with dynamic gameplay to create an unprecedented Kombat experience. MKX launches players into a persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy. For the first time, Mortal Kombat X gives players the ability to choose from multiple variations of each character impacting both strategy and fighting style. Players step into an original story showcasing some of the game’s most prolific characters including Scorpion and Sub-Zero, while introducing new challengers that represent the forces of good and evil and tie the tale together.”
