The mystery that is DC’s upcoming universe plans are starting to come into focus. With the official title reveal (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) along with images showcasing the new Batsuit and Batmobile (possibly even Supe’s new duds), we now have some new rumours to toss on the pile. Via Latino Review, Batman-on-Film and ManofSteelFanPage.com comes a deluge of new reports regarding the latest entry in the latest Justice League saga.
Let’s begin with the casting stuff. Already filling out the ranks of the most anticipated film of 2016 are Gal Gadot playing Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Ray Fisher as Cyborg and Holly Hunter. And that’s not to mention all of the returning cast from Man of Steel. Now Emily Blunt is said to be up for an unspecified role. Blunt has long been in connection with superhero films (she was the frontrunner for Black Widow but had to pass due to scheduling) and it seems (if these rumours are to be believed) that she has found one to her liking. How she will fit in to the already overstuffed cast is a mystery for another day but the idea of Emily Blunt bringing an iconic hero like Hawkgirl or Supergirl to the big screen is pretty tantalizing.
On top of the Emily Blunt character, Zack Snyder will have to find room for one Commissioner Gordon (unless Blunt is in fact playing him… interesting, and a complete out of nowhere remark on my part). With this new Batman being a season vet it isn’t hard to imagine the dark knight’s entire world already existing, and with Alfred Pennyworth already cast it isn’t surprising to think a few other Bat-Family members will be popping up.
Neither of these rumours have been backed up by major outlets or official releases but with the movie still facing almost 2 years of production don’t expect anything in the near future.
Finally, Batman v Superman is said to be shooting some military scenes featuring a number of extras from the April shoots in Detroit. 8500 extras are needed for the scenes and no additional details were provided. How all of this comes together is anyone’s guess but it is fun to speculate. Everyone originally thought DC would follow Marvel’s exemplary template by pumping out solo films and eventually culminating in a Justice League, but as it turns out they have opted to forge their own path and embrace being the “Distinguished Competition”.
“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” is from director Zack Snyder and stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from “Man of Steel,” Also are Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film. Opens May 6, 2016. Distributed by Warner Bros Pictures.
