After a steady stream of bad news out of Marvel’s Ant-Man camp it seems like things have finally settled down. Earlier today Marvel released an official statement announcing Peyton Reed (Yes Man, The Break-Up) as the new (and hopefully final) director attached to the project, along with a new synopsis for the film. Check it out,
Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
While the plot sounds intriguing the director choice leaves something to be desired. Although successful from a financial standpoint, Peyton Reed’s film history is full of low budget TV films and rom-coms. He isn’t the first name that comes to mind when hiring for a superhero action flick but neither were the Russo’s (who turned out the incredible Captain America: The Winter Soldier) so I guess I will have to reserve judgement until the film releases.
In the end I am just glad that Marvel has finally settled on a new director, hopefully it is smooth sailing from here on out.
Let me know what you guys think of the news and don’t forget to check back in to OTL News for all things Marvel and Ant-Man!
