I just can’t wait until the end of this review to give you a score so here it goes, 10 out of 10 it is! Of course I cried like a baby! I have to tell you, this story had me guessing many parts of the movie along the way.
Dreamworks did a wonderful job of showing the age change of the characters over the past five years since the first movie. There’s a ton of romance, character moments, and hell yes there’s a whole lot of action and dragons. I have to mention, there are about 3 great twists. One that I was hoping wouldn’t happen from a personal perspective, but you have to give credit to the directors for putting it in there. This one specific twist was risky and made the movie that much more emotional and it still sets things up beautifully for a sequel.
There is an awesome family scene, and you’ll understand what i mean by family when you see it, but it truly moves the heart when Stoick says “we’re a team” and off they go.
I’m going to spoil this for you because it might be obvious for some but there are a few scenes with herds (like hundreds) of dragons and something even larger! Its pretty incredible how this story line evolves and the possibilities that can arise for future sequels.
This one totally makes me want to watch the television series.
Some of the subject matter may go above the heads of younger viewers but the will eat up all of the dragon action as well as some of the quieter moments involving Hiccup and his father (and obviously Toothless). It’s a cool growing up story, about responsibility and trying new things.
In case you didn’t catch it before, How to Train your Dragon 2 gets a 10/10!
