Maisie Williams, AKA Arya Stark, is purportedly in talks to nab a leading role in Sony’s upcoming film adaptation of The Last of Us.
In a surprise panel at last weekends San Diego Comic-Con Game Director/Writer Neil Druckmann and Producer Sam Raimi talked about the upcoming horror film and in it disclosed a number of tasty tidbits that will undoubtedly have fans clamoring for more. The most exciting bit of news came from Druckmann who disclosed that he is in preliminary talks with Williams to come on board as Ellie, the only known person to be immune to the cordyceps and the possible key to a cure for all humanity.
In addition to the potential casting news a teaser poster was revealed featuring none other than Ellie herself brandishing her signature switch blade from the game. “I think it’s going to be a great character journey and a great love story, and a great horror picture,” Raimi said during the panel. Its great to hear that the core tone of the game will be held intact and with Druckmann handling writing duties the narrative is sure to stay true to the source material.
While no director or other information was released it is exciting to hear that the film is actually underway (as opposed to the numerous other IP’s said to be making the jump to the big screen (*cough* *cough* God of War). In any case, what do you guys think of the news? Love it? Or hate it? let me know in the comments below and don’t forget to check back in to OTL News for all things The Last of Us!!
