It was bound to happen eventually. With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America 3 set for release on the same day (May 6th, 2016) either Marvel or DC were going to flinch, turns out DC decided to bite the bullet.
Choosing to move it up 6 weeks, the new release date for BvS is March 25th, 2016. This is probably best for all parties involved. Had they opted to go the same weekend both movies would not see there full box office potential. With DC choosing an earlier date fans can have some down time between films, save some money and see both as opposed to having to choose between the two.
In other DC news, Warner Brothers has announced release dates for 9 unannounced DC projects up until 2020. The dates include:
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice – March 25th, 2016
Untitled DC Film – August 5th, 2016
Untitled DC Film – June 23rd, 2017
Untitled DC Film – November 17th, 2017
Untitled DC Film – March 23rd, 2018
Untitled DC Film – July 27th, 2018
Untitled DC Film – April 5th, 2019
Untitled DC Film – June 14th, 2019
Untitled DC Film – April 3rd, 2020
Untitled DC Film – June 19th, 2020
11 DC films were apparently leaked not too long ago, assuming those are real it wouldn’t be far-fetched to fill in a number of these blanks with those titles. Expect a Shazam film and Wonder Woman solo outing to hit sooner rather than later, with a possible Green Lantern/Flash team up hitting soon after those. Other properties said to be in development include Aquaman, Metal Men, Sandman, Man of Steel 2 and a new Batman.
It seems like Warner Brothers is ready to go all in with their comic book properties. I only hope that having multiple films from both Marvel and DC (plus whatever Fox and Sony put out) does not over saturate the market.
