Known for his turn as the Tenth Doctor on BBC’s critical smash Doctor Who, Tennant is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the “enigmatic” and malicious Zebediah Kilgrave/Purple Man!
Thanks to a number of leaked audition videos the inclusion of the Purple Man was all but confirmed. But now Marvel has given official word that he will be brought to life thanks to the multifaceted performance of David Tennant. AKA Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenburg and Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb had this to say in light of the reveal.
“I’m so honored and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character, he can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He’ll make Kilgrave a truly original villain.” – Rosenburg
“Anyone familiar with David’s work knows he brings an incredible level of dedication to any role he inhabits, a level we knew we would need from the man playing Kilgrave, While most know him for his roles as a hero, we can’t wait to unleash a whole new side of this talented actor.” – Loeb
Zebediah Kilgrave, better known in the comic world as the Purple Man, is the main antagonist opposite Jessica Jones and has the power to make people do anything he desires. In the comic book Kilgrave essentially kept Jones as his slave and forced her to attack other heroes against her will. Things get incredibly dark within the pages and it will be interesting to see what direction they go and how far they take things.
Tennant is a great actor and adding talent to a project is never a bad thing. He joins Kristen Ritter as the titular Jessica Jones and Mike Colter as Luke Cage in the second of 5 shows headed to Netflix. The show is said to revolve around Jessica, who herself had a short lived career in superheroics, attempting to rebuild her life and career after an unspecified trauma as she finds herself unwittingly drawn into cases involving “gifted” individuals.
