If THR and a number of other trades are to be believed, Paul Feig’s upcoming reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise has found its cast and it is indeed all-female!
According to various trades and seemingly confirmed by Feig himself (see picture below) the upcoming cast of Ghostbusters reboot is said to feature Melissa McCarthy (The Heat, Tammy), Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) and Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon from Saturday Night Live. McCarthy is said to be the only one officially signed on to the project but the other 3 are close to penning their deals.
Wiig and McCarthy have had plenty of experience working together on the set of Bridesmaids which just so happened to be directed by Paul Feig, what a coincidence. Leslie Jones’ latest work can be seen in Top Five and Kate McKinnon was nominated for an Emmy for her stint on SNL.
Set for a summer start date in New York, the film was originally proposed as a continuation of the franchise with original actors Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson agreeing to reprise their roles. Bill Murray, arguably the glue of the films, rejected the offer to return. After the passing of Ramis, Ivan Reitman left the project and Paul Feig was brought on board to direct. He then pitched the idea of an all female cast which seems to have stuck.
The foursome seem like a great grouping and should provide a pretty entertaining film. Are you satisfied with how the film is turning out? Let me know in the comments below and don’t forget to check back in to OTL News for all the latest!
