Yesterday saw the release of a short 15 second teaser for the upcoming Netflix series, Daredevil. Today, Marvel has released the first full trailer for the project and it sure is something. Take a look!
The trailer is only a meager minute and a half but within that short time we immediately get a sense of what showrunner Stephen DeKnight and Marvel are aiming for with the new series. There is probably more blood in a single frame of this trailer then in the entirety of the MCU thus far. Daredevil is going to dark, like really dark, in comparison to the films and shows we have seen.
We also get a good sense of how new to the vigilante business Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is. His brief interactions with the priest showcase his reluctance to continue this type of work but also convey a sense of responsibility on Murdock’s part. From the little we get to see it’s clear that this adaptation is maintaining the integrity of the source material but also putting its own spin on things.
Murdock’s struggle between his religious upbringing and sense of duty as Daredevil is on full display and is sure to put a smile on every nerd face. His monologue about forgiveness in contrast with the brutal action snippets was just awesome and, once again, gives audiences an immediate sense of how this show will operate. Stephen DeKnight (Spartacus) has gone on the record saying that the show will focus on this struggle of right and wrong while detailing the origin of Daredevil as well as his arch nemesis, Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio). There isn’t much Kingpin in the trailer but its widely evident that De Knight has kept true to his word.
Some people may have been skeptical about the project considering Agents of SHIELD had a rocky first season but the quality of season 2 and Agent Carter in conjunction with this phenomenal trailer should put those feelings of unease to rest.
I clearly liked the trailer, what about you? Sound off in the comments below and don’t forget to check back in to OTL News for all the latest!
