Formerly in the running to play the new Cyclops, Ben Hardy has now been tapped to play an as yet undisclosed role in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. Joining a cast that includes the likes of Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp and Tye Sheridan (as Jean Grey, Storm and Cyclops), the Apocalypse is looking quite youthful. Hit the jump for details.
According to a report by Variety, Ben Hardy will be playing an integral role in next years X-Men tent-pole. No details other than the fact that he has joined the project were made available.
It is interesting to note that FOX had their eye on Hardy for quite a while, up for the role of Cyclops which he ultimately lost to Tye Sheridan. Since they were looking at him for a major hero role, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him appear as a re-visioned Angel. In the comics Angel does play a crucial role in the coming of Apocalypse so it makes sense to have the character make a return as one of the 4 Horsemen.
James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult will lead the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse, which will also see Rose Byrne reprise her role as Moira MacTaggert, Evan Peters as Quicksilver and newcomers Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Sheridan as young versions of Storm, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler and Cyclops. The film is being written by Simon Kinberg from a treatment by Mike Dougherty, Dan Harris and Kinberg.
Set to conclude the trilogy that began with X-Men: First Class and continued with X-Men: Days of Future Past, the film is scheduled to begin shooting in Montreal beginning in April. X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27, 2016.
