“Giant rhino pigs driving a tank down a waterfall shooting at ninja turtles… hell yes!”
The rebooted TMNT wasn’t my favorite film of last year (review here) but it certainly had its moments. One of the major issues I had with the film was that it took too much time getting to the goofy over the top antics of the turtles and the Shredder. This new trailer seems to put those anxieties to rest as I have no real clue as to what is happening… but it’s all awesome.
Featuring a returning cast as well as a number of newcomers, Out of the Shadows is looking to be a considerable step up from its predecessor (though I guess that depends on how much you like crazy cartoony action and ridiculous quips). Replacing Jonathan Liebesman in the Director’s chair is Dave Green (Earth to Echo).
The list of new faces includes the likes of Arrow‘s Stephen Amell as the sports obsessed vigilante Casey Jones; actor/filmmaker Tyler Perry as this film’s version of Baxter Stockman; Gary Anthony Williams and Stephen Farrelly (also known as wrestling star Sheamus) as the human criminals-turned mutant animals Bebop and Rocksteady; Brian Tee (The Wolverine) as the new Shredder; and Laura Linney as a cop, who finds herself caught up in all of the chaos.
If there’s one thing to be said about this new trailer it’s that nothing is off the table when it comes to the 30 plus year history of the turtles. Giant rhino pigs driving a tank down a waterfall shooting at ninja turtles… fuck yes!
Tonally things are a lot more consistent this time around and it looks like the turtles are going to be front and center from the get go.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows opens in U.S. theaters on June 3rd, 2016.
