Before Jon Bernthal even has the chance to wow us with his new take on Frank Castle (The Punisher) in Daredevil season 2, Netflix and Marvel have already given the go ahead on a spin-off series for the fan favourite anti-hero. Add in the fact that we now have confirmation that Jessica Jones will be seeing a second season and you have a great weekend for Marvel Television. Hit the jump for details!
According to a report by TV Line, Netflix and Marvel have been so pleased by Bernthal’s performance that the green light for a solo series is all but confirmed. As a sister site of the (almost) always reliable Deadline, TV Line’s report should be followed up with something official in the near future (most likely once Daredevil season 2 premieres in March). After a string of not so great film adaptations, Punisher fans have been looking forward to finally seeing their favourite hero get the showing he deserves.
In addition to The Punisher news, Marvel/Netflix have confirmed that Jessica Jones will get a second season. No premiere date info was given as of yet but considering that Daredevil, Luke Cage, The Defenders & Iron Fist are all in various stages of development, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jessica Jones held back until after the big crossover.
It has been confirmed that Melissa Rosenberg (show runner of the first season) will be returning. As for new or returning cast members? Mums the word.
