Surprisingly hilarious, shockingly adorable and a little disgusting, Angry Birds continues to defy expectations with how damn good it looks. This second trailer gives fans of the franchise more context into the universe spanning rivalry between the Birds and their Pig usurpers while reminding audiences that this film isn’t playing around. Check it out!
Throughout their storied history, video games have accomplished some impressive feats (record breaking sales, franchises becoming global phenomenon, leaps forward in technology). A successful film adaptation isn’t one of them. However, 2016 is looking to change that. With big IP’s like Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed primed to right the ship, the unlikeliest of heroes may just succeed first. Cue Angry Birds!
Sporting an all-star voice cast (Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, a bunch of other equally impressive and hilarious people) and gorgeous animation, Angry Birds has evolved beyond a simple money grab into a legitimately interesting looking film. Showcasing equal parts family fun and adult humour, Angry Birds may end up being THE go to animated movie of 2016. With it’s massive built in audience and broad appeal, the fuming fowl have the opportunity to become the first widely successful video game adaptation.
In the end, this could all end up being lip service to a mediocre animated offering, but as of now, I’ll be in line opening night.
