Directed by Mike Mitchell (Sky High, Alvin & the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked) and written by Erica Rivinoja comes Dreamworks’ take on the 60’s and 90’s phenomenon that was Trolls. Spoofing society’s lack of taste in music, the film boasts an all-star cast. Check out the teaser!
In a world where The Angry Birds looks genuinely fun, one would think that a once beloved property like Trolls could pull off a good movie. From the above trailer, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Plot details are scarce but, if the tone of the trailer is anything to go by, Trolls looks like it could end up being a pandering cash grab intended to trick children into bullying their parents so they can waste their hard-earned money.
The teaser is nothing but colourful little freaks with luscious hair dancing to “Watch Me”. Where Angry Birds instantly sold me on the funny and The Secret Life of Pets enthralled me with its inmate cuteness, Trolls is immediately off-putting.
In an attempt to put a positive spin on things, the film will feature original music by Justin Timberlake (who also stars in the film as Branch) and will feature the voice talents of Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect 2), who plays Princess Poppy, Russell Brand (Despicable Me 2) as Creek, James Corden (Into the Woods) as Biggie, Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory) as Guy Diamond, and Ron Funches (Undateable) as Cooper.
