Read on for the first rumoured details surrounding the enigmatic character Forest Whitaker will be playing in the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story!
Ever since the first official photo surfaced of the Rogue One cast, fans have been feverishly speculating as to who they are and what they will be doing. Mentioned to be a part of the cast but missing from the photo, is Oscar winner Forest Whitaker. A man capable of such talent and diversity will surely add considerable credibility to the first out of saga Star Wars film, which has detail hungry fans all the more invested in find out out who Whitaker will be playing.
Hoping to help satiate those appetites are the resourceful writers over at MakingStarWars.net. The below list compiled by MakingStarWars goes over what they believe to be a physical description of Whitaker’s character. As is the norm with these types of things, take everything with a grain of salt. Nothing is official until Lucasfilm deems it so.
Forest Whitaker’s character uses a cane.
It appears he has one leg and uses a cane as a crutch to walk.
He appears to be a veteran of some battles, but it isn’t clear if he lost his leg fighting in the Clone Wars or against the Empire.
Based on a differentiated code name from the rest of the rebels in the movie, it appears he is likely good but maybe a bounty hunter affiliated type (more on this later).
He seems to be a “good guy” in Rogue One.
He has a cape and his costume is a hodgepodge of different things (think of someone you might see at Maz’s castle).
MakingStarWars goes on to add that instead of having one leg, his character will be sporting a “robot leg”. Robot legs are infinitely cooler than normal legs, so I’m game. Plus it deviates from the Star Wars trope of robot hands. Change is good people.
While specifics on what he will be doing in the film aren’t mentioned, it does say that he will be a “good guy”. Considering director Gareth Edwards earlier statement about lines being blurred in this film, I don’t know how far we can look into that. Either way, his appearance certainly seems to be unique and that, combined with his sure to be wonderful performance, will make for a memorable new character in the Star Wars mythos.
