Animated features have always been a major draw at the box office when it comes to family movie fare. Sausage Party is about to change that. Summoned from the “adult” minds of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, Sausage Party is a tale of a heroic sausage and a bundle of crushed dreams. Take a look at the hilarious debut trailer!
Featuring the voices of a number of Rogen/Goldberg familiars, Sausage Party is a massive deviation from the animated movie formula. The adorable animated characters remain but in place of warmhearted goodness and a somber message sits copious amounts of “Fuck” and unadulterated violence. From this initial look the film is absolutely hilarious, yet the question remains, can Sausage Party sustain the laughs from beginning to end? Or is this the extent of the funny?
Following the adventures of a hot dog named Frank (played by Seth Rogen) from the grocery store to the kitchen, where he believes some sort of food heaven is waiting for him and his companions. Much to his surprise, the truth of his situation is much more horrific. Co-directed by children’s television vets Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon, Sausage Party masks its adult themes and imagery in the guise of a classic children’s lens. While the directors are relative unknowns, their background with the younger demographic will be a major asset in keeping the film interesting (as evidence by the way the trailer poses itself as a generic kids film up to the moment of the terrifying revelation).
The film was recently showcased at SXSW to huge applause, hopefully this transfers to the final product. Sausage Party is set for release on August 12th, 2016. Can you handle the truth?
