‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Casts Young Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey!

Today has been a huge day for casting. First we had Melissa Benoist playing Supergirl and now Bryan Singer, director of the X-Men franchise for Fox, has taken to Twitter to reveal who will be filling in for James Marsden, Halle Berry and Famke Janssen. Alexandra Shipp will be stepping up as Storm, Sophie Turner (known to Game of Thrones fans as Sansa Stark) will be playing Jean Grey and Tye Sheridan (Mud) is going to be suiting up as a young Cyclops.

For the past while rumors have been flying all over the internet as to who would land the coveted roles of Scott Summers, Jean Grey and Ororo Munroe. (Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm). It seems that we now have our answer. Sophie Turner is the biggest name of the bunch having played Sansa Stark on the beloved TV adaptation of Game of Thrones. Sansa as a character is pretty insufferable but Turner is a capable actress that should be able to bring out the best of Jean. Alexandra Shipp is best known for her work as Aaliyah in the songstresses dedicated biopic. She doesn’t have a ton of credits to her name but she certainly looks the part. Hopefully Singer corrects the mistakes of his original portrayal of Storm with Apocalypse.

Speaking of righting wrongs, the biggest disappointment of the original X-Men flicks was how the character of Cyclops was handled. In the comics he is a powerful leader of the X-Men and a capable fighter. In the films he was a whiny pretty boy with no substance. Tye Sheridan will have to work hard to fix the errors of the past but I’m sure he is more than up to the task. This will be his first major role after a minor turn in the critically acclaimed Mud. 

All three of these young actors are pretty fresh in Hollywood, which is a testament to how much faith Singer and the rest of the producers have in this film and their abilities as actors. They will be joining the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, James McAvoy, Oscar Isaac and Michael Fassbender in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.
